Week One Day Three

Alright I forgot to talk about this but my weekend has been a lot of unorganized mess.

I ended up doing Day three Saturday morning around 2am because I couldn’t sleep.

The last of my week one routine looked like this: 8-10-7-7-20

While I feel sort of silly only doing this routine once (as with all of them) I do definitely feel a noticable difference in my modified push-ups.  My chest muscles are a little bit sore but that’s somewhat expected.

I’m eagerly waiting for week two now! Starts tomorrow!!

Outdoors?

For the fact that it’s started snowing out there, I can only think of Maxpedition Gear for outdoor adventures. There’s something exciting about outdoor stuff being done in the winter time as opposed to the summer. Anyone can handle summer outdoor adventures and activities, but I think it takes a special type of someone, usually at least a Canadian, to be able to enjoy the same activities during the dead of winter. And great gear is definitely important. The wrong gear is bound to cause nothing but problems, from comfort level to severe medical problems. I hope that everyone who is going out on a winter adventure is someone who knows what they are doing and is well prepared and well equipped for what they are going to be going up against.  I’m glad that websites exist that tell you what you need, as well as what is afforadble exist, because I would be pretty bad off, not knowing much about these things.  I just don’t have the experience.  My parents never were into the outdoors very much and I never had any extra cirricular activities that would cause a lot of outdoor interaction.  Go get some good gear and it should last you a life time!

SUCCESS!

I called the computer store today while I was on my lunch, around 12 o’clock.

Dude answered the phone, told me my netbook was in.

I could go in at any time, “right now if you want”  but I didn’t, because I was the only one in the office (even though I was on my lunch) and also I had no money with me, my plan being I would go home, change, go to the bank, get money then buy the netbook.

Which is what I did when I realized it was well past 5pm when I looked up at the clock (it was a really busy day)

So I got home, made some food, grabbed cash, went over.  Excitement.

$600 later (not including the $20 deposit) I was walking out of the store with the smallest computer box I’d ever had to carry.  It was cute and adorable.

Got home, opened the box.  WTF.  The battery isn’t installed on the thing?  Whatever, pop in the battery, plug in the adaptors, turn it on, install English Windows XP.  Can’t get online.  It has a wireless card.  I have a wireless router.  WTF?

Brandon helped me by telling me I neede to turn the wireless card on (I didn’t know they had on/off switches) but I finally figured out how to actually do it.  Got online.  Wow… my wireless router isn’t secure.  I somehow always knew that but I didn’t realize it was THAT easy finding it.  Well then! That will soon be fixed!

Downloading downloading.  Got iTunes, Firefox, Google Chrome, Windows Live Messenger - which was uninstalled as it was too new for the recently found patch to remove advertisements.  Found an older version of Windows Live to install, patch worked. (It’s a stumpy little screen, I need all the vertical space I can get!)

Finally, trying to transfer some music over to the netbook… with 1gb memory cards.  This isn’t working.

Figured out how to use the “shared folder” on my desktop, and that my laptop can see it.  Perfect!  4gb of music in minutes… rather than… many more minutes!

This excites me greatly.  I can’t wait to take it around town just to have a laptop like everyone else.

Week One - Day Two

Alright, I almost forgot today was supposed to be day two, but I remembered and here we go.

I can’t believe that the wait time between sets is 90 seconds.  I don’t think I wait nearly that long since I want this to be over with.

Today’s set was the following: 6/8/6/6/18

I definitely felt sore yesterday, but today I felt okay.  I have a feeling tomorrow I’ll feel sore, although I attribute the excessive soreness on Tuesday to the fact that Monday I did two sets of the routine when I really only needed to do one!

Noooooooo!!!! Why?!?

Alright, I was told that my netbook would arrive Monday if we were lucky, but the guy selling it to me didn’t work Monday’s so I should get a message from him Tuesday and to come pick up.  I raced home to check my messages.  A new voice mail message!….. Telling my (currently out of the country) mom she’s due for a check-up at the dentist.  GRR!  No message about my netbook!

So I called the place, thinking the guy didn’t have time to come in.  But he’s there.  And unfortunately he told me my laptop wouldn’t be here until tomorrow (Wednesday)  Boo-urns.

So… no netbook for me.  Yet.

Week One - Day One

Alright, first work out into the one hundred pushups program and away we go.

I sort of… well didn’t read the instructions clearly.  Since there were so few push ups being asked of me (6/6/4/4/ as many as you can) I thought you were supposed to do it three times.  You’re not.  You only need to do one.

So I ended up doing it twice, then realizing just how much pain I was in, went back to read the instructions closer and realized I just did way too much.

So my first set was 6/6/4/4/20

My second set was 6/6/4/4/10

Next workout day is Wednesday.  Let’s hope I remember!

ARRGH! Why must you tease me so?!

Alright this is really frustrating.

I’ve been wanting and looking at buying an MSI Wind netbook for the past month or so, and finally now that I’m getting a steady paycheque and I know that my job isn’t going to be going anywhere anytime soon, I can justify myself in purchasing one.  Well my big goal was to get it in “Noble Red” because it just seemed more unique to have a bright red laptop rather than the black or white that seems really standard.  Pink was interesting as well, as was the hearts special edition but when I saw the red I knew it had to be mine.

So I called up Canada Computers because I saw on their website they stocked many of the different models, and asked if they could possibly order one in red for me.  The guy took down my contact information, which model I wanted and the colour and said he needed to call his district manager at head office to see if it’s possible.  Told me that I would likely be waiting about a week to find out.

Week and a half go by, and nothing.  So I go online and I still see the 160gb model on the website (although now sold out at all locations) yesterday and think that I should just go into a store, maybe someone in the store can help me, at least they see me and know it’s not some prank phone call.

Go into the store, get ignored for a few minutes until I can finally just interrupt two employees who were talking to each other, and yea.  The MSI Wind is pulled up on the guy’s computer.  ”What do you mean 160gb model?  We only have a 120gb (8.9″) model and a 80gb (10″) model”

Thinking this guy’s gone off the deep end since I’d seen my 160gb model on the website not 24 hours before, asked if he’d spin his computer around.  He was right.  My model was the 4th one listed on the MSI Wind webpage, and now there was only 3 models being listed.  Bugger!

I guess when the stores all sold out, the listing goes into hiding or something so they don’t have backorders like crazy.  Although the guy who was talking was saying how “Ya we’re looking into ordering a red laptop for one of our other customers right now.”  I have a feeling that he might have been talking about me since I called them a week and a half ago.

But I digress.

I went home and just started googling to see where else in Ontario I could order my 160gb MSI Wind from.

I think I found it.

New Fitness Fad!

Alright, so I’m feeling a bit chunky these days and a bit heavy and not really liking it.  Buying pants in sizes larger than I last remember, or finding the pants I purchased in the past six months no longer fitting me is not my idea of a good time.

Unfortunately I also seem to fall victim to getting bored with various exercise or workout routines and they tend to dissolve in about the six month mark.

It happened with my first year-long contract at a gym (Then again, I did also get fired six months in and fell into depression.  Afterwards when I started going more regularly, the bloody gym shut down unexpectedly and I really REALLY didn’t like the replacement gym they sent us to.)

It happened with my yoga contract (I think I did a 30 day challenge too hard, and too early in my yoga practice.  It made me not want to go to yoga for almost six weeks afterwards, and after that, I never practiced with the same vigor)

And I’ve just found a new somewhat “fad” that’s sweeping many of my friends.  One Hundred Pushups  The great thing I think about this is, it’s only a six week program which by then my strength and number of consecutive push-ups will have greatly increased.

Being that I’m somewhat horribly out of shape, I will be doing this particular challenge with a modified push-up, from my knees upwards.

It reminds me of when I did my black belt test for TaeKwon Do, the dreaded pyramid pushup scheme to warm up the day of the test.  (And the number of times we had to practice to make sure we got all the pushups the day of)  I believe it was 5-10-15-20-20-15-10-5.  Full pushups too, from my feet, not my knees.  So that means… at one point in my life (when I was 17 years old) I was actually regularly doing 100 pushups every time I went to practice for probably seven or eight months while I trained for the test.

So I’m eager to begin this work-out routine.  And when it’s finished, I will probably start the whole thing over again with full-pushups.

INITIAL TEST: 13 modified pushups.

Ignore them! Ignore ignore ignore!

Oh my god. There’s a Canada reverse phone directory now. So excited. Easy to use, and actually relevant to where I live. I get a lot of American calls for sure, but just by living in Canada there’s obviously a lot of Canadian phone calls that I get, that I don’t really want to answer. Now I can use this website, in conjunction with the American one, to be able to figure out all the people who needlessly call me, so I can block and/or ignore them all! Success!

It’s going swimmingly… against the current the whole way

Alright so heading into my third week at my new job and it’s going great.

I’m learning and my co-workers that share the tiny office we call home are more than helpful, allowing me to ask questions over and over regarding things I don’t normally handle (M-weights & pricing paper by 100 lbs etc)

Right now I’m still picking through and grabbing all the easier quotes, because I think that as a junior estimator it’s my job to handle all the easy stuff and let the rest of the senior estimators with way more experience do the head-scratchers.

Well, last Thursday I had one of the boss-man-guys come in and just throw down a general chit-chat, which partially brought up how I was doing in the company.  That day I was told that the day before (Wednesday) I had hit some number of pumping out over thirty quotes in the one day.  Freaky that he knew for sure what the numbers were, but pretty cool that he seemed impressed by it.

Well, just this particular day being long and winding, I actually counted up the number of quotes (I save all the files for ease of retreival) and I had gotten out more than fifty of them.  Granted, they’re all really simple, and I do often end up with quotes that are repeats of each other with minor changes.  But still.

Fifty plus quotes that didn’t land on my co-workers desks.  I’m sure they’re thrilled.

As am I!

Ignore them all!

I think that Reverse Phone Search services are a very important part of today’s lifestyle. With the numbers of people that will call me, or my family, whom I don’t know, it’s very important!! Nothing bothers me more than companies, or people, who continually call and I have no idea who they are. So something like this is perfect. After using a Reverse Phone Search I can just block phone numbers on my phone by storing them with an “IGNORE” tag. I’m super happy this website is easy to use, otherwise I’d have just gotten frustrated and given up.
